Rod Morgenstein’s challenge in the Dixie Dregs was to keep time playing everything from rock to country to bluegrass and more. His ability to play seamlessly across these twisting musical avenues is just one of many strengths. He possesses an uncanny bass-drum technique, flawless timing and chops galore. “Take It Off The Top” is a charging rocker, full of Morgenstein’s deep, rich sound and features a furious and formidable bass drum outro.
Never heard this tune but I listed and – yeah man. Double bass stuff added musically and was nicely balanced with more sparse quarter note percussion up top … another good choice. The outro really brings it all together.
